6 Self care tips that will inspire you in 2025

Having the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom is extremely rewarding and I would not change it for the world. I can take care of my children full time and be able to watch their development firsthand. I can build a closer bond with them. As much as I love being a stay-at-home mother, it can come with its challenges. I realized that I needed better time management skills and more discipline to take care of myself and my family. I had to start creating boundaries with how I was going to care for my child while also taking care of other life demands. Most importantly remembering to recharge my own batteries so I can have the energy to take care of my family. In this post I want to share some tips with you that have helped me stay in an elevated mood, stay organized, and more relaxed throughout the day.

1. Exercise, walk, train, or take an exercise class

Moving your body and getting your heart rate up can be one of the best ways to reduce your stress levels and keep a sense of peace. Studies have shown that working out can have benefits in balancing hormonal levels and supporting a healthy nervous system in humans.

Here are some examples that could inspire you to exercise that you can do at home or elsewhere if you would like to travel outside of home:

Dance – Following a fun cardio dance exercise on YouTube at home. This is a fun and uncomplicated way to get moving. Even if you do not know how to dance, as long as you are moving is what matters.

Walking -Taking a walk around your neighborhood or if you want to drive to a park that has a safe walking path for a stroller is a wonderful choice as well.

Yoga – There are so many wonderful yoga videos available that are free to follow on YouTube. I would try it out.

Going to the gym – If your gym as childcare, you can sign your child up for a 1 hour or so (however long they allow) while you work out at the gym.

2. Staying hydrated throughout the day

Having a favorite water bottle that can hold 24oz-32oz is a good choice to use throughout the house.

It is important to stay hydrate throughout the day especially if you are moving around trying to keep up with housework, kids who love playing, and you may be running errands.

I have a water bottle what the number of ounces printed on the side of my water bottle to help me keep track of how much water I drink throughout the day.

Pro tip: if you struggle with not drinking enough water, it would be helpful to download a habit tracker that can remind you to drink water. You can turn on your notifications for the reminds on your phone. Another way to keep track on how much water you drink is setting a few timers for drinking water. I have not done this personally, but it does sound like a clever idea if you do not want to download a habit tracker.

3. Wear comfortable clothing

One thing I hate is wearing uncomfortable clothing when I have to move around to get things done around the house or play with my child. If something doesn’t feel right on me, I can’t focus on what is right in front of me. Investing in comfortable clothing can make a big difference on the way your body feels every day. You don’t have to look like you just woke up out of bed to look comfortable. A comfortable but chic looking lounge set is perfect or a comfortable stylish track set is great.

4. Write in journal when you have time

Writing in a journal is a great way to help regulate your emotions and get to know your self better. We have very busy lives and sometimes on feelings get out on the back burner to deal with later. Writing in a journal can help you write about whatever may be bothering your in order to get it out of your head and onto paper. You may be able to solve that problem once it is written down in your journal. It may be just a way to clear up room in your mind. We have so many thoughts racing in and out of our head. Journaling can help us understand what is going on inside of us so we can navigate through the world.

5. Pick up a hobby

This may be the last thing you want to do but hear me out. Having a hobby can put your mind of of the daily task your must do everyday. Having a hobby is something you can do for you and not for your family. It will help you connect to yourself more and it can open your heart up to your creative side as well.

Hobbies suggestions:

  • Make Jewelry
  • Photography
  • Baking
  • Drawing or Painting
  • Sewing
  • Create content that brings value to others

6. Keep up with your health

Colorful assortment of organic juices with fresh ingredients for a healthy lifestyle.

I personally struggled with keeping up with my health because I was so exhausted throughout the day from not getting enough sleep or rest. My best advice as other experienced mothers told me, sleep when the baby/toddler sleeps. If you need a nap, do not feel guilty for taking one. Sleep is extremely important for regulating our body. Sleep helps with regulating our hormones, cell regeneration, boost our immune systems, and balances our digestive system. Do not ignore the importance of sleep. I know it hard in the beginning stages of having a newborn with constant feeding, but it gets a little easier once they achieve their healthy weight gain. My daughter is 15 months old and she loves taking naps. If I didn’t get a good night rest the night before, that is the best time for me to take a nap as well.

Make sure you can eat foods that give you energy than junk food. Eating healthier meals and snacks is like the fuel you need to keep up with your daily demands throughout the day. If you don’t have the right fuel, your body might not be able to keep up. You may experience feeling tired or irritable. I love having green smoothies in the morning with a breakfast meal to start the day. My smoothie is packed with a few cups of spinach with fresh fruits mixed with frozen fruits. This is helpful to have because I know I am nourishing my body with the nutrients it needs. I know it may be tempting to eating junk food, but if you eat more healthy wholesome foods than junk, that can make a difference.

6. Have a schedule

When I had my first baby of course focused on making sure my baby had all their needs met. It was a huge adjustment that I was not use to. Babies tend to run on routine naturally. They sleep, eat, play, and the cycle repeats itself. So, I had to learn how to work with their schedule than trying to change it too much. My schedule is not perfect, but I find having a schedule, most importantly a flexible schedule would help me stay disciplined with my important task for the day.

Wrapping up the post

If you can relate to any of these, know that you are not alone! As we may run into the growing pains of motherhood, there are ways to calm our minds, manage our stress levels, and feel confident about being a new parent. I hope these tips I have shared will help inspire you take action towards taking care of yourself more, so you can take care of your family and other important responsibilities with a fresh perspective. As the saying goes “You can’t pour from an empty cup, you must pour into yourself just as much as you pour into others.” Let me know what you like to do to stay healthy and motivated throughout the day. I would love to hear from you!
